Treatment of osteoarthritis in ayurveda


Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that is caused by the breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of one or more joints. Cartilage is a protein substance that serves as a "cushion" between the bones of the joints. Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative arthritis. Among the over 100 different types of arthritis conditions, osteoarthritis is the most common arthritis.

In ayurveda osteoarthritis is correlated with sandhi-vata, for that many of the treatment given, like snehan, swedan, and many of the drugs. Some of the ayurvedic preparation which is available at home. In ayurveda sandhi-vata have two stages:

1.samawastha,

2.niramawastha

In samawastha inflamation present around the joint wich is absent in niramawastha. Samawastha is treated as apakva soph, in this stage SHUNTHI LEPA [paste of Zingiber officinale] locally is very helpful in relieve pain & inflamation & samawastha is converted into niramawastha.

In niramawastha SHUNTHI KWATH{decoction of Zingiber officinale} - 20ml with

ERAND TAIL { oil of Ricinus communis} - 5ml two times/day

This is very helpful in treatment of osteoarthritis.
